Oil & gas, mining, engineering or another field. Work residency depends on your contract and on your employer being registered with the immigration authority. We review both before you file.

Ask on WhatsApp

My family is coming with me

Spouses, partners and children can usually apply for residency based on your status. Each one needs their own documents, so it pays to plan them together.

Ask on WhatsApp

I am already in Argentina

You entered as a tourist, your temporary permit (precaria) is about to expire, or your application has stalled. We look at where your case stands and what to do next.

Why talk to a lawyer first

Argentine immigration rules changed in 2025 and 2026

Requirements and procedures were modified recently, and some of those changes are being challenged in court. Choosing the wrong residency category, or arriving with U.S. documents that are not apostilled or translated correctly, can cost you weeks.

As Director of the Immigration Law Institute of the Mar del Plata Bar Association, Dr. Aguirre follows each change closely, so you file through the right channel with a complete set of documents.

U.S. documents usually requested

  • Valid passportFor you and each family member.
  • Birth certificateWith an apostille from the issuing state.
  • FBI background checkIdentity History Summary, apostilled by the U.S. Department of State.
  • Marriage certificateIf your spouse applies with you. Apostilled.
  • Employment documentsContract or offer letter and your employer's registration in Argentina.

Documents in English must be translated into Spanish by an Argentine certified translator. This is a general list; exact requirements depend on your case.

For investors · Updated October 2026

Citizenship by investment

Argentina created a route to citizenship through a qualifying investment, without the years of prior legal residency usually required. It was established by Decree of Necessity and Urgency 366/2025 and regulated by Decree 524/2025.

Applications are reviewed by the Citizenship by Investment Programs Agency (Ministry of Economy), which runs identity, source-of-funds, background and security checks and then sends a recommendation to the National Immigration Office, which makes the final decision. Making the investment does not guarantee approval.

Current status: the government has announced that applications will open in the last quarter of 2026. Some details, such as the bond terms and how appeals will work, have not been defined yet. Decree 366/2025 has also been questioned in court in specific cases. We review the program's status at the time of your consultation.

Investment options announced

  • USD 350,000Non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury.
  • USD 800,000Or subscription of a government bond created for the program.
  • USD 100,000For a spouse, and for each unmarried child aged 18 to 25.
  • USD 25,000For each child under 18.

Amounts as announced by the Argentine government. They may change when the program becomes operational.

FAQ

Common questions

General answers. They do not replace advice on your specific case.

Do I need to live in Mar del Plata to work with you?

No. Our office is in Mar del Plata, but we work with clients anywhere in Argentina, including Neuquén, Mendoza, San Juan and Salta, and with people still in the United States. Most of the process can be handled remotely; if any step requires you to appear in person, we tell you in advance.

Can I start the process before I arrive?

Depending on your case, the process may start at an Argentine consulate or once you are in Argentina. We tell you which option fits your situation and your start date.

How long does it take?

Processing times depend on the immigration authority and its workload, not on our office. In the consultation we give you a reasonable estimate for your case.

Do you also speak Russian or other languages?

We work in English and Spanish. Clients from Russia and other countries are welcome in either language.

How much does the consultation cost?

The remote consultation in English (call or video call) is USD 55. Fees for the full process are quoted in writing after the consultation.
